I hope you all survived midterm season and had a lovely fall break this past weekend!
The rest of October (since my last update) and the beginning of November has been very action packed! Other than WCSA putting on a variety of events and spearheading a lot of iniatives (Streetcar Pubcrawl, the Raptors Game, the Zombie Walk, to name just a few), one of the main things I have specficially been focusing on is the proposed levy increase referendum (which we tentatively approved undertaking as a board back in September), and, subsequently, the Town Hall, to advertise said referendum (which occured as planned this past Thursday). We have succesfully held a number of Elections and Referenda Committee meetings to plan the Town Hall, and I would like to take this oppurtunity thank all the committee members for their hard work, as well as Dean’s Office Program Officer Savannah Sloat!
Additionally, at this board meeting, we will be hosting an internal election for our two vacant director positions that were not filled in our fall-by elections: the Academic Bridging Program Director, and the 89 Chestnut Residence Director. We have recieved several applications for the positons in the past few weeks. Best of luck to all the candidates!
Outside of Woodsworth, myself and our Vice-President of External Affairs, Michael Amiraslani, have had the opportunity to attend the Vice-Provost Office’s initiatied Student Societies Summit with all of the other student societies across the University of Toronto. The discussions have definitely yielded some productive results, including proposed ideas for reforms of the divisional society-University of Toronto Students Union’s relationship. If you have any opinions or concerns regarding WCSA’s position during the meetings, please feel free to chat with me either by emailing me (firstname.lastname@example.org) or stopping by my office hours (12pm-2pm on Tuesdays).
Lastly, on Thursday, November 7th, I had the honour of participating in the University of Toronto’s initiation ceremony of our new President, Meric Gertler! The ceremony included a procession in which I had the privilige of representing Woodsworth College by carrying a gonfalon (a trident like object) bearing a flag with our college’s name on it. It was truly a special event!
That’s all for this month, Woodsworth. Best of luck with the rest of November, and talk to you all again in December!
