I hope you are all having a fantastic summer thus far! Whether you are in Toronto, working away in summer school courses, or vacationing in a sunny, far away place, let me be the first to wish you a great summer on behalf of the Woodsworth College Students’ Association.
I’d like to now introduce to you the President’s blog, a brand new addition to WCSA’s services for the 2013-2014 school year! The goal of this monthly update is to keep you, the student, informed of the goings on of your students’ association, both within the Woodsworth community, and the University at large. As the chief representative of WCSA, I will keep you in the loop with everything from the latest events we have to offer, to recent news within the university, and even answering any questions you may have.
The past month has been fairly busy for WCSA. As it was the first full month of the new board’s term, we spent much of our time putting things into place for the rest of the year. We have been updating many of our appliances in our two offices (for example, we purchased a new BBQ for the association, which will be using at many of our events throughout the year!) In addition, we have been starting up locker rentals for the summer, and setting up services that we are going to be providing you with during the year.
In terms of events, on June 1st, we hosted a BBQ for the Registrar’s Office’s first Welcome Day event. This gave WCSA a chance to mingle with incoming students and their families. Additionally, we are having a Blue Jays and BBQ event on Wednesday, June 19th – we’ll be selling tickets online and in the WCSA office during office hours. Check our website for more details!
As it is still early on in our board’s term, we have not collaborated as of yet with any other colleges or faculties. However, during the last weekend of May, WCSA participated in the Student Leadership Conference, which gave us a chance to meet other student councils across campus and make plans for shared events and services in the future. I am happy to report that it was a very productive weekend, and that we will definitely be collaborating with several different councils throughout the year. Stay tuned for details!
Lastly, I am thrilled to say that Orientation planning is progressing very nicely, with several of the traditional events already being booked out! I can confidently say that Frosh 2013 is shaping up to be one of the best yet. For any Orientation related inquiries, email firstname.lastname@example.org
That’s all until next month, everyone. Talk to you all soon!
